about

Johannes Schropp (*1997) studied composition (with Luxa M. Schüttler and Jennifer Walshe) and choreography & performance (Bojana Kunst, Xavier Le Roy, Martina Ruhsam and others). His work expands in the spacetime between various disciplines, approaches and theory, that almost meditatively search for realities that are hidden beyond what is concretely audible, visible, tangible and articulable.

In the collective Air italics, he works together with choreographer/dancer Raquel Nevado Ramos towards an interdisciplinary practice, interweaving the practices, principles and working methods of contemporary choreography and composition to explore genuinely interdisciplinary formats and working methods in which dance coexists in exchange with other disciplines as equal artistic spheres and can be experienced through spatially and temporally hybrid, multi-layered formats.

He also composes music for dance and performance productions, works as a stage director and filmmaker for music theatre and innovative concert forms and as a dramaturge in the field of dance.

Performances, residencies and collaborations at HELLERAU Dresden, Tanzhaus NRW, PACT Zollverein Essen, Radialsystem Berlin, State Theatre Darmstadt, Tanzfaktur Cologne, Frankfurt LAB, Kunstraum34 Stuttgart, FiTZ Stuttgart, LaObra Paris (FR), Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, BAD Festival Bilbao (ES), Simultan Festival Timsoara (RO), Sofia Art Week 4 (BG), among others.

Johannes is a founding member of the initiative Dance Nexus launched in 2024, which is dedicated to supporting independent dance makers in Wiesbaden and Mainz.
